Fred Kirkpatrick, Director, Evaluation Committee Chair
Classic Heat Source
18430 SE Burnside St., Portland, OR
Fred Kirkpatrick grew up on a farm & ranch in Southern Idaho. Much of the strife that he encountered in his younger years was related to fire. His father still can’t believe that the “whole ranch didn’t go up in smoke.” Those early days of experimenting with fire led him to choose the Hearth Industry as a profession. Since 1976, Fred Kirkpatrick has worked in areas of product design, product safety and efficiency testing, purchasing and marketing. He has served on the Board of Directors of Oregon Hearth, Patio & BBQ Association for over 5 years and also serves on the National Board of Directors for the Hearth, Patio & BBQ Association, based in Arlington, VA. When testifying before an Oregon Senate hearing on a Senate bill in 2007 that would mandate the removal of older non emission certified wood stoves, Fred surprised many for that expected him to voice opposition. His testimony in support of this bill was deep rooted in the fact that he believes that he unknowingly contributed to the problem in the early years of the wood stove revolution and now it is his passion to help correct the problem with legislation and education. Fred operates Classic Heat Source, a Retail Hearth & Service Business in Portland Oregon, as well as a small replacement parts manufacturing and distribution business. He heats his home with a high efficiency, low emission wood stove, as does his father.

Andy Todd is married 30 years to Mary Todd and has four children. His hobbies include ceramics and Golf.
“I think the Hearth industry has an opportunity to share with the public the many advantages that we have to offer green heating products for home use. Both clean burning wood stoves and pellet stoves use fuels that are carbon neutral and renewable. These heating devices could help our country become energy independent and not add to global warming. All of our products are based on zone heating whether the fuel is natural gas, propane, wood or pellet. Zone heating is a smarter way to look at heating our houses. The Department of Energy says the furnaces have an average of 28% duct loss in delivering heat to the room. With zone heating the heating device is in the room and there is no duct loss,” says Andy Todd.
