Fireplace and Stove Ratings

The following fireplace and stove types are considered green by the HeatGreen Council and should be chosen by those desiring the most environmentally responsible residential heating. Central furnaces using wood biomass are also included. Additionally, the fireplace and stove types are separated into four groups. The groups are designated by flames with four flames being the most environmentally beneficial. The green difference between any appliances listed next to each other is not significant, but the difference between a three flame and a one flame appliance is somewhat significant. Other non-listed fireplaces and stove types will have very significant value to consumers because of their special design features but they are not considered green at this time. Please refer to information in the Rating System section for further information about how these product types were rated.
